No. 5 Mavericks Rebound, Sweep Doubleheader

ORLANDO, Fla. -- After dropping a game yesterday the fifth-ranked University of Nebraska-Omaha softball team was able to get back on track in the Rebel Spring Games Wednesday, sweeping a doubleheader against New Haven, 5-3, and Tiffin, 5-2.
Melissa Negrete and Beth Haley combined to strikeout 14 in the Mavericks (14-3) first game against New Haven, fanning seven Chargers apiece. Negrete would get credit for her fifth win, while Haley, who worked three innings of relief, picked up her second save of the season.
Alison Jergenson and Leslie Svoboda were both a homerun short of the cycle against New Haven, each going 3-for-4 with a single, double, and a triple. Svoboda drove in three and Jergenson one, leading the Mavs past the Chargers, 5-3, in the opener.
The Mavericks got production from the entire lineup in the second game, as they were able to use a big fourth inning to put away Tiffin, 5-2.
Jenifer McDowell and Julia Krejci had RBI doubles, while Ashley Lynch, Jergenson and Svoboda all drove in runs with singles.
Haley followed up her stellar relief appearance in the first game by tossing a complete game five-hitter against the Dragons in the second contest. The freshman from Highland, Ind. remains unbeaten as a Maverick, improving to 5-0 on the season.
UNO will finish off play in the Rebel Spring Games Thursday with a doubleheader against Holy Family at 3 p.m. and Georgian Court at 5 p.m.
