Mavs Swept On Final Day Of Tournament

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Mavericks dropped their final two games of UNO Softball Classic Sunday afternoon, losing 8-2 to Southwest Minnesota State and 6-3 to Missouri Western at Dill Field.
Jenifer McDowell and Alli Hukill drove in both Maverick runs in the first game against the Mustangs, while Leslie Svoboda and Treightin Yates three combined RBIs in the nightcap helped keep the Mavs in the game until the very end.
The Mavs finished tournament play with a record of 2-3, but look to get back on track Wednesday, Apr. 2, when they travel to Vermillion, S.D. to play a North Central Conference doubleheader against the Coyotes of South Dakota at 2 p.m.
McDowell and Yates both had two hits in the match-up against the Mustangs, but the score was put out of reach after a SWMS six-run sixth inning.
Two Leslie Svoboda RBIs and a Yates RBI single in the third gave UNO the lead for a time in the second contest, but just as in the first game, a big sixth inning signaled the end for the third-ranked Mavs, as the Griffons plated three runs in the home-half of the sixth to take a commanding 6-3 advantage.
