Mavericks Host St. Cloud State in Tourney Opener

Despite being picked to finish last in the North Central Conference this season, the University of Nebraska at Omaha surprised everyone by winning 21 games, including a 7-5 record in conference play, good for a fourth-place finish. The Mavericks earned the right to host a first-round playoff game, hosting St. Cloud State Wednesday at 7 p.m.
This will be the third year in a row the Mavericks and Huskies will meet in the first round. The past two years the games were at Halenbeck Hall, with St. Cloud State winning each game, 63-52 last year, and 96-84 in 2006.
UNO has not won an NCC Tournament game since the end of the 2003-04 season when the Mavs won it all, defeating North Dakota State and South Dakota at Sapp Fieldhouse, earning the automatic berth into the NCAA II Regionals.
The Huskies ended the season losing four out of five games, ending the season at 17-10 with a 5-7 record in NCC play, giving them the No. 5 seed in this week's tournament.
David Dreas averaged 17.9 ppg for the season, best in the NCC. He was a two-time NCC Player of the Week, also pulling down 3.3 rpg and 2.6 assists.
The Mavericks have defeated the Huskies twice this season. St. Cloud State had defeated UNO three times in each of the past two seasons. Overall the Huskies hold a 35-24 lead in the all-time series.
