Porter's 2 Slams Send Mavs to Sweep

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- The University of Nebraska at Omaha extended its winning streak to 16 games, sweeping Augustana 17-4 and 11-9 Saturday in a North Central Conference doubleheader. Evan Porter went 7-for-8 with two doubles and two grand slam home runs on the day to drive in 12 runs for the Mavericks.
The teams will conclude their four-game series Sunday at the Ballpark at Boys Town. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
UNO (28-9, 10-0) jumped on Augustana (6-24, 1-9) early and often in game one, scoring nine runs in the first three innings. Porter hit a grand slam in the second inning to highlight a six-run inning that put the Mavs up for the rest of the game.
NCC pitcher of the week Chris Kessinger (8-1) got the win, despite allowing four runs and eight walks in four innings. Drew Schwab and Ryan Hines combined to pitch the final three innings for the Mavs.
The nightcap was a wild contest that got off to a slow start as the runs didn't come until a six-run top of the fourth inning for UNO. Dustin Koca started the scoring off with a solo home run, Mat Eikmeier later doubled in two runs and Travis Jocobi and Bryan Frew also had RBI hits. Porter again came up with the big hit in the sixth with his second grand slam of the day to put UNO up 11-4.
The Vikings though wouldn't go away, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and five in the sixth to slice the Maverick lead down to two. Mav starter Koca (3-2) allowed all nine runs in his five and a third innings but was helped by a strong effort from the bullpen with Mark Johnson working two-thirds of an inning before Brandon Dahl came in to record his second save of the season.
