Mavs Take Two From Coyotes

OMAHA, Neb. -- The No. 14 University of Nebraska-Omaha softball team rebounded from a rough weekend by sweeping a non-conference doubleheader from South Dakota Wednesday evening at Claussen-Westgate Field, blanking the Coyotes 5-0 in the opener, then stealing a 7-6 extra innings victory in the nightcap.
Beth Haley pitched six innings of shutout ball in the first game, giving up just three hits and striking out five, while Lindsey Slocum's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in the winning run in the second contest.
UNO (24-6, 2-0 NCC) will be back in action Friday, Apr. 4, when they play host to Missouri Western in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Claussen-Westgate Field.
Treightin Yates went 2-for-2 in the first game and drove in a pair of runs. Jenifer McDowell, Brianna Cataudella and Amanda Bader all chipped in, driving in a run apiece.
Haley dominated the Coyotes' lineup in game-one, surrendering just the three hits as she upped her record to 9-2 on the season with the win.
UNO let a five-run lead slip away late in the second game, giving up runs in each of the last three innings to force the game into extra frames.
After trading runs in the eighth, UNO put things away in the ninth when Slocum drove in Kristin Wellwood with as RBI single down the left-field line
McDowell drove in three more runs in the nightcap, while Leslie Svoboda and Cataudella each drove in one for the Mavs.
Allysa Fligg came on in relief to pick up the victory in game-two, improving to 6-2 on the year.
