Winning Streak Halted at 15

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of Nebraska at Omaha softball team had its 15-game winning streak snapped Tuesday, dropping both games of a North Central Conference doubleheader to South Dakota, 2-1 and 5-3.
The 11th-ranked Mavericks (37-8, 9-2 NCC) will look to right the ship Wednesday, April 23, when they travel to Wayne, Neb., for a 2 p.m. doubleheader against in-state rival Wayne State.
In game one, UNO struggled at the plate, managing just four hits for the game. Leslie Svoboda's first-inning RBI single gave the Mavs the lead, but only for a moment. USD knotted the game in the second and took the lead for good in the fourth when Mel Johnson sent a Beth Haley offering sailing over the centerfield fence.
The Mavericks continued their struggles at the dish in game two, as the Coyotes were able to keep them off the board until the final inning. Trailing by five runs UNO rallied in the seventh, pounding out four hits and pushing across three runs. Svoboda drove in one, while Brianna Cataudella's double to center plated the other two Maverick runs. In the end it wasn't enough though, USD held on for the 5-3 victory.
