Mavs Drop Two Against North Central Region Opponen

Mankato, Minn. -- The University of Nebraska at Omaha softball team dropped two North Central Region games Sunday at the Minnesota State Tournament. UNO lost the first game against Winona State, 6-5, after a 12-inning fight, and the second to Central Missouri 4-3.
UNO (38-11, NCC 9-2) has earned the No. 2 seed in the North Central Conference tournament May 2-3 in Duluth, Minn. The Mavericks will play No. 7 seed North Dakota at 10 a.m. May 2 in the first round.
In game one, Chanel Reaves' sacrifice fly kept the Mavs alive for the moment, forcing extra innings until WSU's Amanda Wilhelm scored on a ground ball in the top of the twelfth inning.
Melissa Negrete scattered seven hits in twelve complete innings, striking out ten.
In the second contest, UNO fell to the Jennies of Central Missouri despite three Mav home runs. Brianna Cataudella had two on the day, the first a shot down the left field line in the second inning and a long ball into left center in the sixth. Leslie Svoboda added a home run in the fifth to bring her team-leading total to nine for the year.
Beth Haley was tagged with the loss after pitching 6.2 innings, striking out three.
