MVPs Frew and Kessinger Lead All-NCC Team

Bryan Frew was named the Most Valuable Player in the North Central Conference, and Chris Kessinger was Most Valuable Pitcher, as nine total University of Nebraska at Omaha players were named to the league's final all-conference team.
Frew, a senior from Grand Island, Neb., was named to his third All-NCC team after batting .368 with 10 home runs and 38 RBIs, along with a school-record 31 stolen bases.
Kessinger, a junior from Sioux Falls, S.D., joined the Mavericks this year after two seasons at Muscatine CC. He became just the fourth UNO player to win 10 games in a season, posting a 10-1 record, with a 3.08 ERA and 78 strikeouts.
Head coach Bob Herold was named NCC Coach of the Year for the third time, also receiving the honor in 2002 and 2005. Earlier this season he was named the state's coach of the year by the Nebraska Baseball Coaches Association.
Senior pitchers Dustin Koca and Tim Huber, along with sophomore reliever Brandon Dahl also made the all-conference team. Koca had the rare honor of also being named an honorable mention selection as a right fielder.
UNO's slugging tandem of junior Evan Porter and senior Chris Weimer each made their second straight appearance on the all-conference roster. Porter hit 13 home runs with 66 RBIs in the regular season, while Weimer batted a team-high .414 with 15 homers, driving in 59.
Junior first baseman Mat Eikmeier earned his first selection, posting a .348 batting average, with four homers and 34 RBIs. Junior third baseman Brian Strawn also earned his first nod, batting .398.
Junior catcher Brian Goliber and senior second baseman Josh Shirk each earned honorable mention.
The Mavericks (42-11) begin play in the NCAA Division II Central Region championship Thursday, taking on Minnesota State, Mankato at 3:30 p.m. in Emporia, Kan.
