Svoboda Earns 1st Team All-American Honors

For the second time in her career, senior third baseman Leslie Svoboda has earned first team NFCA All-American honors. Svoboda was also a first team selection in 2006.
Svoboda, who helped lead the Mavericks to the 2008 North Central Conference title, led Nebraska-Omaha with a .427 batting average, 10 home runs, and 66 RBIs, while being named the NCC's Most Valuable Player.
A three-time all-NCC selection, Svoboda finished her UNO career as the school's all-time leader in home runs (44), RBIs (192), and walks (90). She ranked in the top-five of nearly every other statistical batting category, as well.
In addition to first team All-American honors, Svoboda, also earned first team NFCA all-Region accolades, along with sophomore second baseman Treightin Yates. Senior first baseman Jenifer McDowell was a second team all-Region selection.
The only Maverick to start all 57 games, Yates earned all-NCC honors while ranking second on the team with a .335 batting average.
Other notables: Freshman short stop Ashley Lynch was named to the all-tournament team at the NCAA II North Central Regional. Lynch went 5-for-13 in UNO's four tournament games, batting .385 with one double.
The 2008 Mavericks finished with a 44-13 overall record, capturing the final North Central Conference softball championship.
