Four Mavericks Named First Team All-Region

Evan Porter and Chris Weimer were named to the Daktronics All-Central Region team for the second straight year, while three other members of the University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team earned their first selections.
Weimer, a senior outfielder from Iowa City, Iowa, earned his second-straight nod this year, as he became UNO's all-time leader in home runs, and currently leads the team with a .410 batting average.
Porter, a junior shortstop out of Millard North High School in Omaha, also received first-team honors for the second time. So far this season he has 71 RBIs, a school record, while posting a .393 average.
Chris Kessinger, a junior pitcher from Sioux Falls, S.D., the North Central Conference Pitcher of the Year, was one of four starting pitchers named to the team. Kessinger is currently 10-1 with a 2.93 ERA and a 83 strikeouts. He is just the fourth UNO pitcher to win 10 games in a season.
Dustin Koca, a senior from Omaha's Westside High School, made the team as a utility player. On the mound he has a 5-2 record with a 3.69 ERA. He has also had a strong year at the plate, playing right field or designated hitter while pitching, batting .359 with 12 homers and 55 RBIs. He also ranks second in Division II with 54 walks.
Tim Huber, a senior pitcher from Creighton Prep, earned second team honors. The lefty has won his last seven starts, posting an 8-1 record with a 2.99 ERA and a team-high 91 strikeouts.
The Mavericks (42-11), winners of the final North Central Conference championship, begin play in the NCAA II Central Region Championship against NCC rival Minnesota State, Mankato, at 3:30 p.m. at Emporia State University's Trusler Sports Complex.
