5 Mavericks Named to All-NCC Team

Five Mavericks earned berths on the final all-North Central Conference team released Friday by the league office. Senior Leslie Svoboda was named the league's most outstanding player, pitcher Beth Haley the freshman of the year and Jeanne Scarpello was the co-coach of the year.
Svoboda, a third baseman from Lincoln, Neb., was named to the team for a third-straight year after batting .444 with nine home runs and 61 RBIs. Haley, from Highland, Ind., has a 16-5 record with a 2.00 earned run average.
Other Mavericks on the squad include sophomore second baseman Treightin Yates, Bellevue, Neb., who batted .360 with three homers and 23 RBIs; right fielder Chanel Reaves, a senior from Lancaster, Calif., who batted .325 with 15 runs batted in, and senior catcher Brianna Cataudella from Itasca, Ill., who hit .304 with six home runs and 27 RBIs.
Scarpello, who has guided the Mavericks to a 38-11 overall record and a 9-2 mark in the NCC, shares the honor with South Dakota's Amy Klyse. Scarpello also was named the league's coach of the year in 2000 and 2001.
