UNO Finishes NCC Play 19-1 After Split With Mankat

MANKATO, Minn. -- The University of Nebraska at Omaha fell short of perfection in North Central Conference play, but did take three of four from Minnesota State after splitting a Sunday doubleheader, losing 4-0, then winning 4-2, Sunday at the MSU Baseball Complex.
UNO finishes the regular season 39-11, and 19-1 in NCC play, while two-time defending conference champion MSU finishes 24-21, 13-7. Both teams will gear up for the conference tournament in Omaha next week at the Ballpark at Boys Town and Seymour Smith sites.
Game one saw UNO's 18-game NCC winning streak come to an end as Minnesota State scored in the first off starter Taylor Weisbeck (4-1), then added three insurance runs in the fifth to get the victory. MSU was able to keep the UNO bats in check for the game as MSU starter Jim Dale went the distance, scattering just four hits.
In game two UNO would grab the lead early, as Frew led off the game off with a walk, stole second, then scored on a Dustin Koca single.
In the third Frew again set the table with his 11th double of the season, later scoring on a wild pitch. He stole his second base of the day, giving him 29 for the season, setting a new UNO season record. Evan Porter's sacrifice fly later in the inning made it 3-0. Leading 3-2 in the top of the seventh, UNO added an insurance run, taking advantage of two MSU errors.
Tim Huber (7-1) threw his fifth complete game of the season in picking up the victory, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out three.
