McCawley Named 2008 NCC Female Scholar-Athlete

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Soccer All-American Danielle McCawley, the 2007 North Central Conference most valuable player, was named the recipient of the 2008 NCC Female Scholar-Athlete award. The award was presented to McCawley at the NCC Celebration Dinner last Saturday, June 21.
The award is given annually to one male and one female senior student-athlete who distinguish themselves through academic performance, athletic ability and community activities. The recipients of the NCC Scholar-Athlete Award are selected by the league's institutional representatives from the NCC Honor Athletes announced in May. Each school selects one male and one female student-athlete for the Honor Athlete recognition.
McCawley, is only the third UNO athlete to win the prestigious award. Tara Buzzell (softball) won the award in 1999 and Kirk Hutton (football) in 1984.
McCawley earned third team NSCAA All-American honors this season and was a two-time all-NCC selection. She scored 8 goals and added 3 assists for 19 points for the Mavericks.
A three-time academic all-NCC honoree, McCawley carries a 3.997 GPA in mathematics. She is also a three time NCC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll selection and was named to the ESPN The Magazine academic all-district VII second team.
