Two Exhibitions on Tap For 2008 Mavericks

The University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team will hold two exhibitions this week in preparation for the 2008 season. This will be the first chance for both the public and the media to see the 2008 Mavericks in action.
The Mavericks will hold their annual Red-Black Scrimmage on Tuesday, Aug. 19 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Sapp Fieldhouse. Nebraska-Omaha will also hold an exhibition match against the Maverick Alumni on Saturday, Aug. 23. A 5 p.m. match will pit two Alumni teams against each other, followed by a 6 p.m. match with the 2008 Mavericks versus the UNO Alumni.
The Mavericks will open the 2008 regular season on Aug. 29-30 when they host the nine-team Comfort Inn & Suites/Firewater Grille Tournament at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
Head Coach Rose Shires enters her 19th season as the mentor of the UNO volleyball program. She has amassed a 371-199 overall record with nine NCAA Tournament appearances, three North Central Conference championships and one national title.
The Mavericks return three starters and eight letterwinners from last season's 17-9 squad that advanced to the NCAA Division II tournament for a fourth-straight season.
Admission is free for both exhibitions.
