Elmo, Minn. - The Maverick golf team took advantage of good weather to shave ten strokes of f its team score. But the Mavs couldn't move up in the standings and finished in fifth place in the Concordia University Fall Invitational. Junior #Erin Ommen# led the way for UNO with a final score of 158 to finish third among all golfers.

Ommen finished Monday's round with a score of 80 at the Tartan Park Golf Club. Sophomore #Amy Powell# had an 82 for a two-day total of 168. Junior #Abbey Weddle# was third in team scoring for the tournament with a 170. Sophomore #Dani Suponchick shot 179 and freshman Rebecca Pollock# had 186. The Mavericks shot 330 on Monday after firing a 340 in rainy conditions on Sunday.
Host Concordia University of St. Paul, Minn. won the event with a total score of 651, just edging North Dakota at 652. Upper Iowa was third at 660. Rachael Schmidt of Upper Iowa was the top individual finisher with a two-day total of 153.
The golf team returns to action on Saturday and Sunday in the Mustang Invitational hosted by Southwest Minnesota State.
