Mavs Begin MIAA Play With Three Matches in Four Da

The University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team will begin Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play this week with three matches in four days.
The Mavs will host Missouri Southern in their first-ever MIAA match on Wednesday night, Sept. 17, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sapp Fieldhouse. UNO will then travel to 16th-ranked Pittsburg State for a 7 p.m. match on Friday night, before concluding the week with a 2 p.m. match at Southwest Baptist on Saturday.
The Record
The Mavericks are currently 4-6 on the season after losing to 11th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney last Wednesday in the Sapp Fieldhouse. UNO then dropped two five-set matches at the Central Missouri Challenge to Minnesota State-Moorhead and Southeastern Oklahoma State last Saturday in Warrensburg, Mo.
Missouri Southern is 4-5 on the season. The Lions have won two-straight matches with victories over Drury and Missouri S & T. UNO leads the all-time series with MSSU, 2-1. The two teams have not played since 2002 when UNO defeated the Lions 30-27, 26-30, 32-30, 30-16 in Omaha.
Pittsburg State is ranked No. 16 in the latest AVCA top 25 poll. The Gorillas are 10-2 overall and 0-1 in the MIAA after being swept last Saturday at Central Missouri. UNO leads the series 5-1. However, the Gorillas won the last meeting, 30-23, 30-26, 33-31 last sesaon in Lakeland, Fla.
Southwest Baptist is currently 7-5 on the season. The Bearcats are one win away from equalling their 2007 victory total when SBU finished 8-24. UNO leads the all-time series, 2-0. The two teams have not met since the 2000 season.

In the CBS College Sports Network/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll released on Sept. 15, five MIAA opponents were ranked in the top 20, including Washburn (No. 3), Truman State (No. 11), Emporia State (No. 14), Pittsburg State (No. 16), and Central Missouri (No. 17).
