OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's basketball team moved back above the .500 mark with an 85-72 win over the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats on Wednesday night at Sapp Fieldhouse. #Amanda Brodsack# led all scorers with 22 points as the Mavericks pulled away late in the second half.
UNO led by as many as 19 points in the first half. Brodsack hit 2 free throws with 5:18 remaining to put the Mavericks up 38-19. Brodsack finished 13-for-15 from the line, one free throw from tying her career best. Still, the Bearcats were able to chip away at the lead and trailed just 40-28 at the half.
The Mavericks started the second half without #Alyssa Green#, and that helped Southwest Baptist close the gap. They narrowed the UNO lead to two points when Courtney Heady hit a three-pointer with 5:42 to go in the game. Heady would hit 4 three-pointers, all in the second half.
But the Mavericks used tough defense to secure the win. Brodsack hit 10 of her free throws in the second half, most down the stretch to secure the win. #LaToya Wright added 17 for the Mavs while Ashley Nelson# chipped in 16.
Courtney Creed led the Bearcats with 18 points while Heady had 16.
The Mavericks return to the Sapp Fieldhouse court on Saturday, Jan. 17 when they host the Missouri Southern State University Lions at 5 p.m.
