Maverick Men Look To Continue Roll vs. Gorillas, I

This Week: The University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball team faces a road/home week as it visits the Pittsburg State University Gorillas on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. and then returns home to host the Washburn University Ichabods on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3:30 p.m.
The Records: The Mavericks are 12-4 on the season and 6-3 in the MIAA. UNO earned its second straight upset with a 74-64 win over the then 13th-ranked Lions of Missouri Southern on Jan. 17. The Gorillas are 7-9 this year and 2-7 in the MIAA. They dropped a 74-63 decision at Fort Hays State last Saturday. Bearcats 88-84 on Wednesday night. Washburn is 10-7 so far and 6-4 in league play. The Ichabods lost to Emporia State 85-75 last Saturday night.
The Coaches: Derrin Hansen is in his fourth season as UNO head coach. The 1991 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University is 64-43 as a head coach. He spent seven years at UNO as an assistant coach before taking over the head job in 2005. Gene Iba is in his 14th season as the head coach at Pitt State. He is 249-146 in his career at PSU and 475-349 in more than 28 years as a head coach. He is a 1963 graduate of Tulsa University. Bob Chipman is now in his 30th season as the head coach at Washburn. He is 656-258 all-time leading the Ichabods. He is a 1973 grad of Kansas State.
The Series: UNO trails the all-time series with Pittsburg State, 19-14. The two schools haven't met since Dec. 17, 1994 when the Mavs earned a 72-69 overtime win at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks are 17-28 all-time against Washburn. The Mavs fell 84-83 to the Ichabods in their very first MIAA game on Dec. 3, 2008 at Topeka, Kan.
Media: Both games this week will be broadcast live on KOZN 1620 AM. Gary Schaaf will call the action on Wednesday's game at Pittsburg State while David Gustafson will have the play-by-play on Saturday against Washburn. Both broadcasts begin with the pre-game show 10 minutes before the opening tip. The game also is available on-line at omavs.com and also may be viewed on-line at themiaa.tv.
Coming Up: The Mavericks will continue their home stand with one game at Sapp Fieldhouse next week. They will host the Fort Hays State University Tigers on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
