Mavericks Welcome RedHawks To Town

The University of Nebraska at Omaha Mavericks will host the tenth-ranked Miami University RedHawks this weekend, Jan. 23-24, in a two-game Central Collegiate Hockey Association series at the Qwest Center Omaha. Face-off for each game is set for 7:05 p.m. CST.
Both contests will be televised, Friday's on NET2 and Saturday's on NET. They can also be seen on CBS College Sports Network, the station formerly known as CSTV.
Last Week Recap
UNO made its annual trek to Fairbanks to play their CCHA rivalry-partner, the University of Alaska Nanooks. The Mavericks were shutout in the first game, 2-0, and skated to a 1-1 tie in the series finale before losing 1-0 in a shootout. Junior goalie Jeremie Dupont tied a career-high for saves in a game with 41 in Friday's setback, while senior Dan Charleston provided the sum of UNO's offense on the weekend with Saturday's lone goal. Miami, on the other hand, snapped a five-game losing streak when they salvaged a split with Michigan State in Oxford, Ohio. Carter Camper and Gary Steffes each scored twice in Miami's 6-1 victory Saturday.
The Records
The Mavericks are 1-3-1 in the new year, and find themselves at 13-8-4 overall and in a tie for fourth-place in the CCHA with a league mark of 8-6-4-3. Miami's split with Michigan State last weekend allowed the 13-8-3 RedHawks to remain in a tie for second-place in the conference at 11-5-2-1.
The Series
The RedHawks own a 15-6-2 advantage in the all-time series with the Mavericks and come into Omaha having won nine straight and twelve of the last fifteen against UNO (12-1-2). UNO's last victory over Miami was a 5-2 triumph in Oxford back in January 2005 while the Mavs haven't beaten the RedHawks in Omaha since October of 2002.
The Rankings
UNO slipped out of the USCHO/CBS College Sports Poll this week, falling just outside the top-twenty. The Mavs now find themselves in a tie with Ohio State for fourth-place in the CCHA. Miami, with a nearly identical record to UNO, dropped one spot this week in the national poll, moving from ninth to tenth. The RedHawks are tied with Alaska in second-place, seven points behind league-leader Notre Dame.
Coming Up
The Mavericks will travel to Big Rapids, Mich. next weekend, Jan. 30-31, to face clustermate Ferris State. UNO split a series with FSU in Omaha earlier this season and has a history of success in Big Rapids winning six of the twelve matchups between the two at the Ewigleben Ice Arena (6-4-2).
Further Out
UNO will be wearing speacially designed game jerserys in an effort to raise awareness and money for brain cancer research during their Feb. 6-7 series against Western Michigan. The jerseys will be auctioned off during the game on the 7th with proceeds going to the Estabrook Cancer Center for cancer research and education.
