Mitch Albers Earns Athlete of the Week Honors

OMAHA, Neb. – University of Nebraska at Omaha sophomore guard #Mitch Albers# was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association athlete of the week for men's basketball. It is the second straight week that a Maverick men's basketball player earned the honor. Senior guard Michael Jenkins got the nod last week.
Albers, a 6-foot-4, 175-pound sophomore from Papillion, Neb., averaged 29.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists as the Mavericks split a pair of conference games last week.
He scored a career-high 28 points in UNO's 88-86 overtime loss at Pittsburg State Wednesday (Jan. 21). He was 8-of-14 from the field – including 3-of-4 from three-point range – and 9-of-11 at the foul line. Albers scored 17 of his points after halftime.
During a 93-88 home win over Washburn Saturday night (Jan. 24), Albers improved his career scoring high by netting 30 points as he took up the slack after senior G Michael Jenkins left the game early with an injury.
Before fouling out late in the game, Albers was 13-of-21 from the field, and 3-of-7 beyond the arc.
Albers is a graduate of Papillion-LaVista High School.
