Maverick Women Host Two Games This Week

This Week: The UNO women's basketball team will attempt to snap a three-game losing streak when it hosts the Fort Hays State University Tigers on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m. and non-conference foe Rockhurst University on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1:30 p.m.
The Records: The Mavericks are 7-9 this season and 4-7 in the MIAA. They lost to the tenth-ranked Washburn University Lady Blues, 64-62, on Jan. 24. The Tigers are 8-9 this season and 4-6 in the MIAA. They're coming off a 90-51 loss at home to Emporia State in their last game on Jan. 21. The Rockhurst Hawks are 9-11 this season and 3-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. They picked up a 77-67 win at Southern Indiana last Saturday and will play Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday before tipping off with the Mavericks.
The Coaches: Patty Patton Shearer is in her fifth season at UNO. She is 74-58 all time at UNO. Last year, the Mavericks started 14-1 (the best start in school history) and recorded their third-straight winning season at 17-12. A native of Marana, Ariz., Patton Shearer is a 1990 graduate of Rocky Mountain College. Tony Hobson is in his first season guiding Fort Hays State. He coached the previous 7 seasons at Hastings College where he was 211-40 all-time. Hobson is a 1981 graduate of Hastings. Rebecca Morrisey is now in her eighth season as head coach at Rockhurst. She is a 1983 graduate of St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, Kan.
The Series: The Mavericks are 1-1 all-time against Fort Hays State. The Tigers picked up an 87-70 win over UNO in the first meeting of the season on Dec. 5 at Hays, Kan. UNO is 2-2 all-time against Rockhurst. The two teams last played on Nov. 17, 2007, a 72-64 UNO win in Kansas City.
Media: Both games can be heard live on KOIL 1180 AM in Omaha. David Gustafson will have the play-by-play on Wednesday while Gary Schaaf will call the action on Saturday. Both games begin with the pre-game show 10 minutes before the opening tip. The game also is available on-line at omavs.com and also may be viewed on-line at themiaa.tv.
Coming Up: The Mavericks will return to conference action next week when they visit the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m. They'll finish the week back home on Saturday, Feb. 7 to host the fourth-ranked Emporia State University Hornets at 1:30 p.m.
