Mavericks Men To Face Truman, Central Missouri

This Week: The University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball team will play its first home game in nearly a month when it hosts the Truman State University Bulldogs on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The Mavericks will then take to the road again on Saturday, Jan. 10 against the University of Central Missouri Mules at 3:30 p.m.
The Records: The Mavericks are 9-3 this season and 3-2 in the MIAA. UNO picked up a 76-65 win over Missouri Western in its last outing on Jan. 3. The Bulldogs are 5-8 on the year and 0-6 in the MIAA. They're coming off a 69-47 loss at Fort Hays State last Saturday. Central Missouri is 10-2 overall and 3-2 in league play. The Mules earned a 73-64 win over Washburn on Jan. 3.
The Coaches: Derrin Hansen is in his fourth season as UNO head coach. The 1991 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University is 61-42 as a head coach. He spent seven years at UNO as an assistant coach before taking over the head job in 2005. Jack Schrader is in his 14th season at Truman State. He has a career record of 147-198. He is a 1975 graduate of Arizona State. Kim Anderson is now in his seventh season at Central Missouri. He is 138-56 all-time in Warrensburg. Anderson is a 1979 graduate of Missouri.
The Series: UNO trails the all-time series with Truman State, 5-7. The two teams last met on Dec. 18, 2005 when the Bulldogs earned a 64-60 win in a holiday tournament in Quincy, Ill. The Mavericks trail Central Missouri 1-3 all-time. The two schools last squared off on Dec. 3, 1977 when the Mules picked up a 60-59 win at Warrensburg, Mo.
Media: Wednesday's game can be heard live on KOZN 1620 AM. Saturday's game will be broadcast live on KOIL 1180 AM. David Gustafson will call all of the play-by-play beginning with the pre-game show 10 minutes before each tip-off. The games will be available via a live web broadcast at omavs.com. Both games also may be viewed on-line at themiaa.tv.
Coming Up: The Mavericks will play two ranked teams at home next week. They'll host the third-ranked Southwest Baptist University Bearcats on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. They'll finish the week on Saturday, Jan. 17 when they welcome the tenth-ranked Missouri Southern State University Lions for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
