Faulkner Nabs CCHA Goalie of the Week Honors

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – UNO goaltender #John Faulkner# was named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's Goaltender of the Week on Monday. Faulkner earned a win and a tie in his first two collegiate starts during the Mavericks' two-game series at Colgate.
Faulkner made a season- and career-high 27 saves in a 1-1 tie with Colgate on Friday, Oct. 16, his first collegiate start. He followed that up with 23 saves in a 4-1 win over the Red Raiders the next night.
For the season, the native of Sarnia, Ont. has a record of 3-0-1, matching the team's start. He has posted a 0.94 goals-against average and a .958 save percentage in four appearances. The redshirt freshman has only allowed two goals in nearly 200 minutes of action, both of which were scored while the Mavericks were a man short.
Faulkner's goals-against average and save percentage rank second-best in the country and first among goaltenders with more than one appearance.
Faulkner is the second Maverick to earn one of the CCHA's weekly award in as many weeks. Last week, junior forward #Rich Purslow# was named the league's offensive player of the week.
In other news this week, the Mavericks moved up to 13th in the latest USA Today/USA Hockey weekly poll and to 12th in this week's USCHO.com/CBS College Sports poll. Last week, the Mavs were 15th in the USA Today poll and 16th in the USCHO.com poll. UNO also jumped up seven spots and is now ranked tenth in the weekly power rankings released by InsideCollegeHockey.com. UNO is one of five CCHA schools in the website's top 20 joining Miami (1), Michigan (6), Notre Dame (9) and Alaska (13).
