Mavericks Earn High Marks in the Pool

OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO swim team showed off its depth in a season-opening pentathlon meet with Nebraska-Kearney on Friday at HPER Pool. The meet, which wasn't scored, gave swimmers from both teams opportunities to compete in several events.
Several Mavericks were within a second of one another in the 100 yard butterfly. #Tessa Edwards# won the event in a time of 1:03.22, just edging #Ashton Porter# by .08. #Laura Kemp# was third (1:03.62) and #Amy Bechdolt# was fourth (1:03.92).
Bechdolt turned in the strongest performance in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.89, more than two seconds faster than teammate #Ariel Lahowetz# who was second at 1:04.07.
UNO, which has a tradition of success in the sprints, had the top 12 times in the 50 yard freestyle with #Cait Hopkins# taking the top spot in a time of 25.33, just .34 ahead of #Lucy Zamecnik#.
Hopkins earned another first place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 54.84.
#Chelsea Hartman# posted the best time in the 100 yard breaststroke, coming in at 1:12.94, a full second ahead of Zamecnik.
#Laura Kemp# had a strong showing in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:46.93, beating the rest of the field by more than eight seconds.
The Mavericks return to action on Saturday, Oct. 24 when they visit Nebraska.
