Baier Named Offensive Player of the Week For Third

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the third time this season, redshirt freshman forward #Nicole Baier# has been named offensive player of the week by the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association on Tuesday for her eight-point output in a pair of matches last week.
Baier became the fifth Maverick in school history to record two hat tricks in a season when she found the back of the net three times in UNO's 4-1 win over Emporia State on Oct. 18.
The Omaha, Neb., native scored her first goal of the game in the 32nd minute. The goal proved to be the game winner, her team-leading fourth game winner of the year. Baier's second and third goals came in the 44th and 66th minutes. She also added an assist in the game on UNO's first goal of the game that was scored by #Jessica Powers# in the 14th minute.
On Oct. 15 against Missouri Western, Baier assisted on Jerica Kuncl's game-tying goal at 12:06 of the first half in UNO's 1-1 tie with the Griffons.
Baier now has a conference-leading 12 goals and 10 assists on the year. Her first hat trick of the season came against Central Oklahoma on Sept. 4 in UNO's 5-2 win. Baier netted three goals and added two assists in the match.
It is the sixth time this season that UNO has had a player receive the weekly award. Powers was named offensive player of the week on Oct. 6 and Oct. 13. Junior goalkeeper #Lauren Fox# earned defensive player of the week on Sept. 22.
The Mavericks head to Topeka, Kan., for a match with the Washburn University Lady Blues on Thursday. Kick off is scheduled for 6 p.m. UNO edged Washburn 1-0 the last time the two squads met on Oct. 11.
