The Mavericks will enter the final week of the regular season with a chance to jump a spot in the MIAA standings and with a chance to keep their lone opponent from winning the conference title outright. No. 22 Nebraska-Omaha hosts fifth-ranked Central Missouri Friday at 7 p.m. in what will be Senior Day for UNO's six seniors.
The Mavericks are 20-12 overall and sixth in the MIAA while UCM is 31-4 overall and first in the conference at 17-2. A win for UNO would give the Mavs a chance to finish in a tie for fifth and it would also give Emporia State a chance to tie the Jennies for the conference title. A Central Missouri win would give the Jennies the title outright.
The match Friday will also be UNO's last chance to improve its NCAA tournament resume. The Mavericks were sixth in the October 29 South Central Region poll and the top eight teams in the region poll advance to the NCAA tournament. One more poll is schedule to come out Thursday this week before the final announcement on Sunday.
The Mavericks defeated Northwest Missouri last Wednesday before falling twice on the road. Missouri Western topped them on Friday and Truman won on Saturday. The Jennies went undefeated against those same three opponents last week, losing just one set.

Mavericks Notch Another 20-Win Season
The Mavericks secured their 27th 20-win season in the program's 40th year of competition when they defeated NWMSU last week. Despite playing in the last five NCAA tournaments, 20-win seasons have been rare lately. The Mavericks only had three 20-win seasons in the last nine years. They did win 20 or more every year from 1992 to 2000. Head coach Rose Shires has 12 20-win seasons in her 20 years at UNO.
Goeser Enters 1,000 Kill Club
Senior outside hitter Kelli Goeser earned her 1,000th career kill at UNO October 31 against Emporia State. She now has 347 kills this year and 1,028 in her career. She became the 18th member of the 1,000 kill club and the second Maverick this year to join the elite group after Ellen Thommes did so earlier in the season.
Goeser is second on the team with 2.87 kills per set and third with 3.14 points a set. She has 18 double-figure kill matches this year.
Thommes Near The Top In Attack Percentage
Senior middle hitter Ellen Thommes is second in the MIAA with a .398 attack percentage and she's on pace to finish with the second highest single-season mark in school history. Her career attack percentage of .344 ranks third all-time at UNO.
Thommes is also UNO's leader with 3.19 kills a set and 1.01 blocks. She's second in the MIAA in blocks and fourth with 4.00 points a set.
Angie Reicks Near The Top In Digs In MIAA
Sophomore libero Angie Reicks is seventh in digs in the MIAA with 4.39 per set and she has 531 this season. She has reached double figures in digs in 26 of 32 matches this year, including each of the last 11.
Reicks' total of 531 digs is the third highest single-season mark in school history and this is just the eighth time that a player has recorded at least 500 digs.
Myers Enters UNO Top-10 In Career Assists
In just her second season with the Mavs, sophomore setter Emily Myers moved into the top 10 in career assists at UNO. She's currently ninth with 2,259 and she needs 100 to move to eighth all-time and pass her predecessor, Katie Agnew (2,359 assists from 2004-07). Myers is the ninth player in UNO history to record at least 2,000 assists.
Myers is fourth in the MIAA with 10.93 assists per set. She has had 30 or more assists in 30 of 32 matches this year and she's topped 50 seven times. She had a career high of 60 last Friday at Missouri Western. She also has 12 double-doubles this year combining double-figure assist totals with double-figure dig totals.
Ebke First In The MIAA In Aces
Freshman defensive specialist Natalie Ebke remained first in the MIAA with .47 aces per set. Ebke has a total of 57 aces and she holds UNO's top four single-match marks for assists this year, getting five or more four times.
Mavericks Drop To 22nd In National Poll
After remaining 20th in the nation for two weeks, the Mavericks dropped to 22nd this week after going 1-2 last week. This is the lowest the team has been ranked since first jumping in the poll at No. 23 after week two.
UNO is one of six MIAA teams in the top 25 and overall, seven of UNO's 2009 opponents are in the ranking.
The Mavericks were unrated in the preseason and after week one. Their highest ranking this year was 15th on September 28 and October 5.

Two weeks ago they lost twice when winning the opening set. Before that, their only loss when starting with a win came on September 9 in a five-set loss at then-No. 9 Nebraska-Kearney. Their only win after losing set one came on September 18 in a five-set battle with No. 22 Pittsburg State.

The Mavericks were sixth in the most recent NCAA South Central Region ranking, released October 29. Another ranking will be released November 12. The top eight teams in the final ranking will earn a spot in the NCAA region tournament. UNO has been to the last five postseason tournaments and 17 overall. Head coach Rose Shires has led UNO to 10 postseason appearances with a national title in 1996.

There's never an easy week in the MIAA and for the Mavericks, there have been very few weeks when they haven't had to play some of the top teams in the country. They have faced at least one ranked team in eight of their 10 weeks of competition. In five of those weeks they were facing at least one top-10 opponent. They are 3-9 in their 12 total matches against ranked teams.

Central Missouri is 31-4 overall and 17-2 in the MIAA. The Jennies have clinched at least a share of the MIAA title and they can claim it outright with a win over UNO.
