Mavs Open NCAA Tournament Against Truman

NCAA Tournament Brackets
The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team (13-5-2, 12-2-2 MIAA) will face Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Truman Bulldogs (14-3-3) in the South Central Regional first-round game of the 2009 NCAA Division II Soccer Championships on Friday, Nov. 13 at 12 p.m. First-round action will be played at The Pitch, which is the home field of top seed and host school West Texas A&M.
Truman is the No. 4 seed in the South Central Region while UNO takes the No. 5 seed. The winner will face the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. This year's tournament berth marks the eighth straight and the eighth in school history. The Mavericks fell in the first round of the tournament last year to Texas A&M-Commerce, 1-0.
The Series
The Mavericks faced the Bulldogs two times this season and split with each team winning on their home field. On Sept. 12 UNO won 4-1 and on Sept. 26 TSU won, 1-0. Overall UNO is 12-5 all-time against Truman, including a 4-0 postseason record against the Bulldogs.

Scouting The Opponents
TSU: The Bulldogs earned their way into the tournament with an automatic bid by winning the MIAA conference title last weekend. They finished with 40 points, two more than UNO. TSU had won 11 straight until falling to Central Missouri 2-0 on Oct. 31. The Bulldogs closed out their season with a 1-1 tie against Missouri Western on Nov. 3 and a win over Emporia State 2-0 on Nov.
WTAMU: The Lady Buffs represent the Lone Star Conference. They advanced to the championship game of the LSC tournament which was held last weekend in Canyon, but were defeated in a shootout by Central Oklahoma.

The Coaches
Head coach #Don Klosterman# enters his 11th season at the helm of the Maverick women's soccer team. He has compiled a 183-44-9 (.799) overall record as the only soccer coach in UNO history. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to eight-straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2002-2009). In those appearances, Klosterman guided the Mavericks to at least the quarterfinals in six-straight seasons (2002-2007), and led the team to a 2005 National Championship.
During his tenure, he has earned the National Coach of the Year honors two times (2002, 2005). The St. Louis, Mo., native has compiled 11-straight winning seasons and has never won less than 13 matches in a season. Klosterman was ranked 16th in victories among all-time Division II coaches entering the 2009 fall season.
Mike Cannon is in his 17th season at the helm of the Truman soccer program. He has compiled a 230-79-30 overall record and has led TSU to eight NCAA tournament appearances going 6-7 in postseason play.
Butch Lauffer is the head coach at WTAMU and is in his 14th season as the head coach of the women's program. He has a career 176-59-15 record.
