Midnight Basketball Highlights Weekend Events at U

OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO men's basketball team will kick off its regular season one minute past midnight on Sunday, Nov. 15 when it hosts Doane College at Sapp Fieldhouse. It's one of several events during a busy weekend for UNO athletics.
As part of the Midnight Madness event sponsored by Burger King Corp., the first 250 students will receive free Double Cheeseburgers when they come to the game. Festivities begin with a pre-game concert by the band 3 Sides which begins at 10 p.m. at the Fieldhouse. At halftime, three students will shoot from half court for a chance to win a $500 scholarship from Metro Credit Union.
Later that afternoon, the women's basketball team will begin its regular season when it hosts Dana College at 1:30 p.m. The Mavericks will announce a special season-long dedication prior to tip off.
Earlier in the weekend, the UNO hockey team kicks off a two-game series with Lake Superior State at Qwest Center Omaha on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13 and 14. Friday's game begins at 7:35 p.m. while Saturday's contest starts at 7:05 p.m. The Mavericks will honor the parents of all UNO hockey players and hold a special birthday celebration for long-time supporter David Scott during the intermissions of Saturday's game.
The UNO volleyball team will play its final regular season game on Friday, Nov. 13 when it hosts Central Missouri at 7 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks will recognize its six seniors prior to the game. They'll also welcome all Girl Scouts to the game and sign autographs for the scouts following the match.
Tickets for all UNO athletic events are on sale at the Sapp Fieldhouse box office, Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and by phone at (402) 554-MAVS. Tickets for all UNO hockey games are also on sale at the Qwest Center box office.
