Four Players Sign Letters To Join Mavs For 2010-11

OMAHA, Neb. - Three high school seniors and a junior college freshmen signed letters of intent this week to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha and play softball for the Mavericks during the 2010-11 school year.
Head coach Jeanne Scarpello announced the signings of two Nebraskans, one player from Missouri and one from Indiana. Omaha native and Millard West senior Amber Lutmer joined Hershey native and Hershey High School senior Dana Elsasser as the two Nebraska recruits. Joining them were Sarah Elliott from Platte City, Mo., and Johnson County Community College and St. John, Ind., native Jessica Toth, a senior from Hanover Central High School.
Elsasser and Toth our projected to pitch for the Mavs. Toth earned first team all-state with a 1.37 ERA as a junior and Elsasser had a 0.56 ERA with 201 strikeouts in 137 innings pitched with her club team. Softball was not offered at her high school.
Elliott, Lutmer and Toth are listed as infielders. Elliot earned first team all-state her final two years of high school and her senior year she helped her team to a state title. She'll play as a freshman this spring at JCCC. Lutmer hit .500 as a senior to earn super state and Class A all-state and Toth had a .457 batting average to go along with her pitching numbers. Lutmer is also listed as a catcher.
The Mavericks went 45-17 last year and they advanced to the championship game of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament and to the championship game of the NCAA Division II South Central Region tournament. Scarpello will begin her 11th season at UNO when the Mavericks play at Metro State on February 5.

A 2009 graduate of Platte County R-3 High School where she lettered all four years in softball as a shortstop for the Pirates...she earned first team all-state her final two years and first team all-conference and all-district every year...her senior year she led the team in stolen bases, RBI and batting average to earn team offensive MVP...her senior year she helped her team to a Class 3 state championship...also played soccer her first two years and earned all-conference and all-district honors both years...she was named to the principal's honor roll all four years.

Played for the KC Originals Gold as a shortstop from 2007-09.

Born on August 22, 1990, in Kansas City, Missouri...her parents are Stacy and Steve Elliott...has two sisters, Samantha and Shelby...plans to major in biology...her hobbies include watching movies and she chose UNO because she liked the campus and the coach.

Played for Sensations Softball and made the all-star team in the 2007 Triple Crown World Series...also made the all-star team of the 2008 Colorado Sparkler Tournament...earned first place in the 2008 speed pitching contest af the 2008 Triple Crown World Series...selected to play in the 2009 Triple Crown All-American Team in New York, New York...in 137 innings pitched she had a 0.56 ERA with 201 strikeouts and 22 walks...had a .315 batting average.

A senior at Millard West High School where she lettered in softball her final two seasons for the Wildcats...her senior year she earned second team super state and first team Class A all-state...she hit six home runs with a .500 batting average her senior year as her team tied for fourth in state...an injury before her sophomore season kept her from playing that year...also played basketball and track her first three years and got third in state her freshman year in shot put.

Played for the Sizzle Black 18U team during the summer of 2009...she helped her team to a second place finish at nationals and she batted .486 with 15 home runs.

Born on May 13, 1991, in Fairmont, Minnesota...the daughter of Debra and Mike Lutmer...has one brother, Brett, who is a student assistant wrestling coach at Augustana (S.D.)...he was a state wrestling champion at Skutt High School (Omaha, Neb.)...she chose UNO because she loves Omaha and she's impressed with the softball program...plans to major in pediatric nursing with a career goal of working with kids.
