Hansen Signs Two Out Of Omaha Area

OMAHA, Neb. - Nebraska-Omaha head basketball coach Derrin Hansen announced the signing of two players with Omaha ties to letters of intent to attend UNO and play basketball for the Mavericks in 2010-11.
Caleb Steffensmeier, a senior at Omaha Creighton Prep and Isiah Gandy, a freshman at Des Moines Area Community College signed with UNO during the fall early period.
Gandy played at Boys Town High School and both come to UNO after winning state titles in high school.
Steffensmeier started every game at Prep last year and earned all-Metro and honorable mention all-state as the Junior Jays won the state title. He'll play this year as a senior.
Gandy will be a freshman at DMACC. He went there after setting the Boys Town High School scoring record with 1,308 career points. He helped the Cowboys win the state title his freshman year and he ended up being a starter all four years.
He was a two-time first team all-state selection in basketball and a first team all-state selection his senior year in football.
Hansen's Mavericks are 3-0 this year and they'll continue action Friday and Saturday in the SUNHEAT College Basketball Classic in Grand Island, Neb.
