Mavs Give Up Halftime Lead In Loss at Northwest Mi

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Mavericks led by a point at halftime but couldn't hold it in the second half in a 78-69 loss at Northwest Missouri State Saturday night.
Nebraska-Omaha evened its record at 4-4 and fell to 1-2 in the MIAA while the Bearcats improved to 6-4 and 2-2 in the league. The Mavericks will return home Sunday to host York at 4 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Three Mavericks scored in double figures with Heather Pohl leading with 19 points. She had an 8-of-10 performance from the free throw line and added five field goals. Alyssa Green took 21 shots and made eight to score 18 points and Kiley Herold came off the bench to score 11 off a 5-of-6 night from the field.
Those three also led UNO in rebounding. Pohl and Green each had nine and Herold had eight. The Mavericks won the rebounding battle, 49-43 against NWMSU.
The Mavericks scored the first five points of the game but that 5-0 lead ended up being their largest of the night. The Bearcats took over with a 6-0 run and then there were seven more lead changes in the first half before Herold's 3-pointer with 11 seconds left in the half gave UNO a 29-28 lead at halftime.
The second half saw five more lead changes. UNO took its final lead of the game at the 9:58 mark when Green hit a lay-up. The two teams traded baskets after that and then NWMSU took over for good at 8:57 when Tara Roach's basket gave the Bearcats a 50-48 lead.
UNO shot just 37 percent in the game while the Bearcats were 41 percent fromt the field. UNO shot 79 percent from the free throw line and NWMSU was 66 percent.
Gabby Curtis led the Bearcats with 27 points and Gentry Dietz had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
