This Week's Release
This Week: The UNO women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 11 to host the Missouri Western State University Griffons at 5:30 p.m. The Mavericks then hit the road to play the Truman State University Bulldogs on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 1:00 p.m.
The Records: The Mavericks are 10-10 this season and 6-8 in the MIAA. They're coming off a 78-72 upset of then fourth-ranked Emporia State on Saturday. The Griffons are 4-17 on the season and 4-11 in the MIAA. They earned a 52-39 win over Missouri Southern on Feb. 7. Truman State has a record of 5-17 this season and 2-13 in league play. The Bulldogs beat Southwest Baptist 87-80 last Saturday afternoon.
The Coaches: Patty Patton Shearer is in her fifth season at UNO. She is 77-59 all time in Omaha. Last year, the Mavericks started 14-1 (the best start in school history) and recorded their third-straight winning season at 17-12. A native of Marana, Ariz., Patton Shearer is a 1990 graduate of Rocky Mountain College. Lynn Plett is in his second season as head coach at Missouri Western. He is 16-32 at Western and 201-210 all-time as a head coach. He is a graduate of Tabor College. Michael Smith is in his first year at Truman State. He has a record of 107-51 as a head coach and is a graduate of Central Methodist University.
The Series: The Mavericks lead the all-time series with Missouri Western, 7-3. UNO won the last meeting, 73-62, when the two schools met in St. Joseph, Mo. back on Jan. 3. The Mavs also lead the series with Truman State. UNO has a 3-1 edge following a 68-62 win in Omaha on Jan. 7.
Media: Both games can be heard live on KOIL 1180 AM in Omaha. David Gustafson will call the action. The games begin with the pre-game show 10 minutes before the opening tip. The games also are available on-line at omavs.com and also may be viewed on-line at themiaa.tv.
Coming Up: The Mavericks have another home/road week ahead of them next week. They'll host the University of Central Missouri Jennies on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 5:30 p.m. They'll finish the week against the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats in Bolivar, Mo. on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
