Maverick Men Play at Home, on Road This Week

This Week: The University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball team will work a home/road split this week. The Mavericks will host the Missouri Western State University Griffons on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. They'll finish the week in Kirksville, Mo. against the Truman State University Bulldogs on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 3:00 p.m.
The Records: The Mavericks are 14-7 on the season and 8-6 in the MIAA. UNO dropped a 91-85 decision to Emporia State last Saturday afternoon. The Griffons are 10-12 this season and 7-8 in the league. They earned a 90-78 win at home against Missouri Southern last weekend. The Bulldogs are 6-16 overall and 1-14 in the MIAA. They lost to Southwest Baptist, 81-57, in their last game on Saturday.
The Coaches: Derrin Hansen is in his fourth season as UNO head coach. The 1991 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University is 66-46 as a head coach. He spent seven years at UNO as an assistant coach before taking over the head job in 2005. Tom Smith is in his 21st season as head coach at Western. It's also his 34th season as a college head coach. He is 395-213 in St. Joseph and 564-397 all-time. Smith is a 1967 graduate of Valparaiso. Truman State is coached by Jack Schrader who is in his 14th season. He has a record of 153-228 all-time. He is a graduate of Arizona State.
The Series: The Mavericks have the advantage in the all-time series with the Griffons, 6-4. They won 76-65 in St. Joseph, Mo. back on Jan. 3. UNO trails the all-time series with Truman State, 7-6. The Mavericks picked up an 89-78 win when the two teams met in Omaha back on Jan. 7.
Media: Both games will be broadcast live on KOZN 1620 AM. David Gustafson will have the play-by-play beginning with the pre-game show 10 minutes before the opening tip. The games also are available on-line at omavs.com and also may be viewed on-line at themiaa.tv.
Coming Up: The Mavericks return home next week to host the University of Central Missouri Mules on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. before visiting the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
