Maverick Men Face Two Ranked Foes

This Week: The University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball team will face two stern tests this week with games against teams ahead of them in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Mavericks host the seventh-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. before visiting the fifth-ranked Southwest Baptist University Bearcats on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
The Records: The Mavericks are 15-8 on the season and 9-7 in the MIAA, good for fourth place. UNO earned an 83-72 win at Truman State on Saturday to sweep the season series. Central Missouri is 20-3 on the year and 13-3 in conference action. The Mules picked up a 69-57 win over Fort Hays State on Saturday. Southwest Baptist, like Central Missouri, is 20-3 overall and 13-3 in the MIAA. The Bearcats are coming off an 86-84 win over Washburn last weekend.
The Coaches: Derrin Hansen is in his fourth season as UNO head coach. The 1991 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University is 67-47 as a head coach. He spent seven years at UNO as an assistant coach before taking over the head job in 2005. Central Missouri is guided by Kim Anderson, now in his seventh season as head coach. He is 148-57 all-time in Warrensburg, Mo. He is a 1979 graduate of the University of Missouri. Jeff Guiot is now in his fifth season at Southwest Baptist and his 15th season overall. The Pittsburg State graduate is 311-134 as a head coach.
The Series: UNO trails the all-time series with Central Missouri, 1-4. Central earned an 85-72 win at home on Jan. 10. The Mavericks had never played Southwest Baptist before the two teams squared off on Jan. 14 in Omaha. UNO picked up an 88-84 win.
Media: Both games will be broadcast live on KOZN 1620 AM. David Gustafson will have the play-by-play beginning with the pre-game show 10 minutes before the opening tip. The games also are available on-line at omavs.com and also may be viewed on-line at themiaa.tv.
Coming Up: The Mavericks finish the regular season next week. They'll visit the Missouri Southern State University Lions on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. and then return home to host the Pittsburg State University Gorillas on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 3:30 p.m.
