This Week
The University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team returns to action this week when it travels to Warrensburg, Mo. to compete in the Holiday Inn Classic hosted by the University of Central Missouri. The Mavericks open the tournament on Fri., Feb. 20 with an 11:00 a.m. double-header against the Winona State University Warriors. UNO will finish the tournament by facing Upper Iowa University on Sat., Feb. 21 at noon.
The Records
The Mavericks opened the 2009 campaign last weekend with a four-game sweep of Colorado Christian University. #Josh Warren and Evan Porter# each had seven hits in the weekend series, while #Jeremy Klein# collected a team-high five RBIs to lead the Mavericks offensively. On the mound, #Ben Percival and Joe Holtmeyer# each pitched three scoreless innings and paced the pitching staff with five strike outs.
The Coaches
#Bob Herold# is in his tenth season as the UNO head coach. The 1972 graduate of UNO was a 1971 NAIA All-American for the Mavericks. He is 304-184-2 all-time as a college head coach. Herold is assisted by #Chris Gadsden# (11th Season) and Dan McGinn (10th Season).
The Series
UNO leads the all-time series against Winona State, 3-0. The Mavericks and Warriors haven't played since UNO sweept a double-header, 11-10 and 17-10, in the 2006 season in Omaha. UNO holds a 5-1 edge in the all-time series with Upper Iowa. The Peacocks' lone win in the series came in the last meeting, a 20-11 victory in the 2007 Holiday Inn Classic.
Pre-Season Poll
The Mavericks were picked to finish third in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association according to a pre-season poll of the league's coaches. UNO received 78 points in the voting, finishing behind Central Missouri (99 points) and Emporia State (92 points).

Coming Up
The Mavericks will travel to Florida next week to compete in the RussMatt Tournament in Winterhaven, Fla. The Mavericks play a total of six games in the tournament and will open on Feb. 26 by facing the University of Tampa at 5:00 p.m. CST.
