Mavericks Head to Florida for RussMatt Tournament

The University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team hits the road again this weekend to compete in the RussMatt tournament being held in Winterhaven, Fla. The Mavs open the tournament on Thursday against the University of Tampa at 5 p.m. UNO will follow that up on Friday as it faces Hillsdale College in a double-header. On Saturday, the Mavericks will face Gannon University at 10 a.m. and then Kentucky Wesleyan on March 1 at 11:45 a.m. On March 2 UNO will face Grand Valley State in a double-header. The Mavs will wrap up the tournament on Tuesday, March 3 against West Virgina Wesleyan at 8:30 a.m.
The Records
The Mavericks, now 6-1 on the year, continued the 2009 season last weekend defeating Upper Iowa 11-4 and splitting a double-header with Winona State. #Jeremy Klein extended his hitting streak to seven games this past weekend while Brian Strawn# notched his sixth straight game with hit. On the mound, #Ben Percival# recorded his second win of the season and #Paul Hansen his first win of the season. Brandon Dahl# came in to close out the game for Hansen and recorded his first save of the season.
The Coaches
#Bob Herold# is in his tenth season as the UNO head coach. The 1972 graduate of UNO was a 1971 NAIA All-American for the Mavericks. He is 306-185-2 all-time as a college head coach. Herold is assisted by Chris Gadsen (11th Season) and Dan McGinn (10th Season).
Pre-Season Poll
The Mavericks were picked to finish third in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association according to a pre-season poll of the league's coaches. UNO received 78 points in the voting, finishing behind Central Missouri (99 points) and Emporia State (92 points).

The four game series begins on March 6 at 3:00 p.m. On March 7, the teams will play a double-header starting at 1:00 p.m and the teams will finish the four game set on March 8 at 12:00 p.m.
