2009 Volleyball Schedule
OMAHA, Neb. - Rose Shires' 20th season as the UNO head coach will begin August 28-29 as the Mavericks host the UNO Showcase in Sapp Fieldhouse. The entire 2009 schedule was released Thursday and it features two home tournaments and 10 home matches against MIAA competition.
The Mavericks will also host the UNO Classic, September 11-12 and play in a tournament at Florida Southern, September 4-5. Their only non-conference away game outside of tournament play will be at instate rival Nebraska-Kearney on September 9.
Along with four non-conference opponents who played in last year's NCAA tournament, the Mavericks will compete for the second straight year in the MIAA, a league that sent six teams to the NCAA South Central Region tournament.
MIAA play starts September 16 at Missouri Southern with the Mavs returning home after that to host Pittsburg State September 18. After facing each MIAA team twice, the South Central Region tournament will begin November 19 and the Mavericks will look to make their fifth straight trip to the event.
UNO went 16-16 last year and played in the first round of the South Central Region tournament. The Mavericks went 12-8 in the MIAA to finish sixth.
