Box Score
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Senior catcher #Brian Goliber# had a big day at the dish for the University of Nebraska at Omaha, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while junior second baseman #Andrew Hansen# got things moving from the lead-off spot with three doubles on the afternoon. But it wasn't enough, as the ninth-ranked University of Tampa Spartans scored ten unanswered runs late in the game to pick up an 11-4 victory over the Mavericks Thursday at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
The Mavericks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, picking up a run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of #Brian Strawn# and two more on Goliber's two-out single to left.
UNO added one more in the third when Goliber drove in Strawn with a double down the left field line. But that was the last runs the Mavs were able to push across as three different Spartan relivers combined to hold UNO to just two hits over the last five innings of play.
Senior pitcher #Chris Kessinger# got the starting nod for the Mavericks and did his part to keep Tampa in check, going four strong innings, striking out four and surrendering just one run on three hits before handing the game over to the bullpen.
The UT bats came to life in the top half of the fifth, hanging five runs on the Mavs in that inning to take the lead. Tampa extended its lead with two runs in the sixth and three more the eighth to seal the 11-4 win.
UNO (6-2) returns to action Friday afternoon with a 12:30 p.m. CST doubleheader against Hillsdale College.
