Maverick Men Return To Action With Two This Week

This Week: The University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball team, fresh off some rest after a one-game week, returns to MIAA action in the first week of February. The Mavericks visit the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats on Wednesday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m. and then return home to host the Emporia State University Hornets on Saturday, February 7 at 3:30 p.m.
The Records: The Mavericks are 13-6 on the season and 7-5 in the MIAA. UNO dropped an 80-61 decision to visiting Fort Hays State last Wedensday, Jan. 28. The Bearcats are 9-11 this season and 4-9 in the MIAA. They lost to Fort Hays State 72-68 last Saturday in Fort Hays, Kan. The Hornets are 14-6 and 8-5 in the MIAA. They beat Truman State 87-63 on Sunday.
The Coaches: Derrin Hansen is in his fourth season as UNO head coach. The 1991 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University is 65-45 as a head coach. He spent seven years at UNO as an assistant coach before taking over the head job in 2005. Steve Tappmeyer is in his 20th season as the head coach at Northwest. He is 405-204 all-time in Maryville, Mo. David Moe is in his eighth season at the helm of Emporia State. He is 128-93 in his head coaching career.
The Series: The Mavericks lead the head-to-head series with Northwest, 7-6. They earned a 73-64 win over the Bearcats in the first meeting of the season on Dec. 13. UNO leads the all-time series with the Hornets, 17-4. ESU picked up an 86-80 win at home when the two teams first got together on Dec. 31.
Media: Both games will be broadcast live on KOZN 1620 AM. David Gustafson will have the play-by-play beginning with the pre-game show 10 minutes before the opening tip. The game also is available on-line at omavs.com and also may be viewed on-line at themiaa.tv.
Coming Up: The Mavericks will work a home/road split next week. They'll host the Missouri Western State University Griffons on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. They'll finish against the Truman State University Bulldogs on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 3:00 p.m.
