Saturday's Heat Sheets--Lincoln
OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO track and field team heads in two different directions for competition this week. Maverick sprinters and pentathletes will head to Lincoln, Neb. for the Husker Invitational. The remainder of the team will go north to the University of South Dakota for the Bill Hillenbrand Open. Both meets will be held on Feb. 6 and 7.
UNO's sprinters are looking to continue their early season successes. So far this season, #Pinar Saka# has broken school records in the 400 meter and the 600 yard dashes. The senior from Istanbul, Turkey ran the top Division II time in the nation in the 400 with a clocking of 53.36 on Jan. 17. That time also is the tenth best in the world this season. She will run the 400 in Lincoln.
#Anja Puc# is fresh off running another top time nationally. She won the 800 meter run last week at the Wildcat Invitational at Kansas State in 2:11.57. That time is nearly one second faster than the next fastest time run by any Division II runner. She broke the school record that had stood since 1985, and she did it while running the 800 for the first time ever. Like Saka, she will run the 400 this weekend.
Saka and Puc will team with Kayla Koepkke and #Shannon Moore# in the 4 x 400 meter relay in the penultimate event of the meet on Saturday night. The Mavericks will be running in the fast heat in that event along with Division I Arizona and Texas El Paso.
Moore will have a busy day as she also will compete in the women's pentathlon. #Maja Mihalinec# also will compete in Lincoln in the 60 meter dash.
In South Dakota, #Heather Minssen#, already a provisional qualifier for the national championship meet in the shot put, will attempt to improve her season best alongside teammates #Madison Haugland and Lianne McNaughton#.
#Rasheema Pitt#, also a provisional qualifier in the triple jump, is out to better her marks along with teammates #Kelly Hollmann and Ashley Yates#.
Both meets begin with events on Friday afternoon.
