OMAHA, Neb. - UNO softball pitcher #Lindsey Slocum# was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association softball pitcher of the week, it was announced today. She is the second UNO hurler to be so honored, following teammate #Beth Haley# who received the honor on Feb. 24.
Slocum, a 5-foot-5 sophomore from Omaha, was 2-0 with a 1.17 earned run average in two appearances during the Mavericks' 4-1 weekend at the MSSU Teri Mathis-Zenner Memorial Classic.
She held the No. 1 team in the NAIA, Oklahoma City, to one run on one hit as she struck out nine, walked two and hit a batter in UNO's 3-1 victory on Friday (March 6). She retired the last eight Stars to come to the plate.
The next day, Slocum allowed one run on four hits while striking out 11 and walking one in an 11-1 five-inning complete-game win over Fort Hays State. She fanned five Lady Tigers in a row between the second and third innings, then struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
Slocum, who also hit .529 for the weekend while splitting time between the pitching circle and the outfield, is a graduate of Marian High School.
The Mavericks return to action at the AAUW Softball Showdown hosted by Emporia State beginning Friday, March 13 against Southwest Oklahoma State at 12 p.m.
