UNO Plays Host to Missouri Southern this Weekend

The University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team will play its home opener this weekend when it hosts Missouri Southern State University. The Lions visit the Ballpark at Boys Town for two double-headers. The first game starts on Saturday, March 14, at 1:00 p.m. The Mavs and the Lions will finish the series on Sunday, March 15, starting at 12:00 p.m.
The Records
The Mavericks return home after dropping three of four games on the road to Emporia State. Their record now stands at 11-8 on the season with a 1-3 record in conference play. UNO will play host to Missouri Souther this weekend. Missouri Southern has a record of 12-6 on the season including an undefeated record of 6-0 in the MIAA.
The Coaches
#Bob Herold# is in his tenth season as the UNO head coach. The 1972 graduate of UNO was a 1971 NAIA All-American for the Mavericks. He is 311-192-2 all-time as a college head coach. Herold is assisted by #Chris Gadsden# (10th Season) and Dan McGinn (9th Season). Missouri Southern is coached by Bryce Darnell who is entering his second season as the head coach in Joplin, Mo. He has a record of 19-33 at MSSU. Darnell is assisted by Kyle Denney ( second season), Nick Tuck (first season) and Dennis Vilela (first season).
The Series
Missouri Southern holds the advantage over UNO in the all-time series between the schools. The Lions will take a five game lead heading into this weekends series with 11 wins against only six losses. The two teams last met on March 25, 2006 in a double-header that was swept by UNO.

#Evan Porter# leads the team in batting average on the year with a .451 average. He also leads the team in hits (32), runs (20), total bases (53), and RBIs with 20. The first pitch will be thrown out at 1:00 p.m. UNO will then head down to Bolivar, Mo., for a four game series against Southwest Baptist University. The series will begin on March 20 with a double-header starting at 1:00 p.m. The Mavericks will wrap up the weekend trip on March 21 with another double-header starting at 1:00 p.m.
