Mavericks Advance To Finals in Day One of Track Na

HOUSTON, Texas - UNO sprinters #Pinar Saka and Anja Puc# both qualified for the finals in their respective events after the first day of competition at the NCAA Division II indoor track and field national championship. Saka will represent the Mavericks in the 200 and 400 meter finals while Puc will run in the 800 meter final.
Saka ran the top time in the 400 meter trials, coming in at 56.01. It's nearly three seconds off her school record time of 53.04 but nearly half a second faster than the number two qualifier, Michele Williams of Adams State.
Saka had the third-best time in the 200, finishing the prelim in a time of 24.54, roughly half a second slower than her school record time of 23.93. Samoy Hackett of Lincoln was first at 24.17, and Angelique Smith of St. Augustine's was second at 24.53.
Puc was second in the preliminary heats of the 800 with a time of 2:12.92. She trailed only Ashley Puga of Northwest Nazarene University who ran 2:10.86.
Freshman #Maja Mihalinec# failed to qualify for the finals in the 60 meter dash. She finished in a time of 7.71 which was good for 12th place.
The second and final day of competition begins tomorrow at the University of Houston with the women's one mile run at 3:30 p.m.
