EMPORIA, Kan. - The Mavericks scored four runs in the first and four in the fifth as they defeated Washburn, 10-1 Saturday in five innings at the Emporia State AAUW Softball Showdown. The Mavericks also defeated Tarleton State, 2-1 Saturday and have won five straight and all four in the ESU tournament.
Melissa Negrete allowed four hits and struck out two with no walks against WU. She was backed by a pair of RBIs each from Katelyn Hinton and Jenna Dell. Hinton and Amanda Bader also each scored twice and had two hits.
The Mavs scored four runs off three hits and two errors in the first inning and then four runs off four hits in the fifth.
UNO will wrap up action at ESU Sunday at 10 a.m. against Augustana.
