Four Mavericks Named Indoor Track All-Americans

OMAHA, Neb. – Four members of the UNO indoor track and field team were named 2009 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II All-Americans, it was announced on Tuesday. #Pinar Saka#, #Anja Puc#, #Shannon Moore and Kayla Koepke# all earned the honor following their fifth place team finish at the Division II national championship meet last week in Houston, Texas.
Saka earned All-American honors in the 400 and 200 meter dashes. Saka was the national champion in the 400 with a time of 55.58. She finished sixth in the 200 at 24.62, just one-one hundredth of a second out of fifth place.
Puc was second in the 800 meter dash, an event she began running just this season. She finished in a time of 2:10.05.
Moore was third in the pentathlon after going into the meet seeded eighth. She registered three personal bests to earn the third spot. She ran 8.99 in the 60 meter hurdles, threw 37 feet, 10 inches in the shot put and ran 2:21.35 in the 800 meters.
Saka, Puc, Moore and Koepke took first in the 4 x 400 relay with a time of 3:46.66, more than two seconds ahead of second place Lincoln University which handily won the team championship. They entered the championship meet as the fourth seed.
The Mavericks' outdoor season begins on Saturday, April 4 at the Northwest Missouri State Invite.
