UNO Hosts Pittsburg State in a Four-Game Series

The University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team will play a four-game series this weekend against MIAA conference foe Pittsburg State. The series will take place on Saturday and Sunday in a pair of doubleheaders at the Ballpark at Boys Town, weather permitting them. Saturday's games start at 1 p.m. while Sunday's will begin one hour earlier at 12 p.m.
The Records
Last week the Mavericks improved their record to 20-9 and 10-4 in the MIAA moving into second place behind Emporia State. UNO split a double-header with Missouri Western on March 18, winning the first game 6-4 and dropping the second game 1-2. Over the weekend of March 20-21 the Mavs swept Southwest Baptist in a four-game series. Pittsburg State comes to Omaha with a record of 9-15 overall and 6-4 in the conference.
The Coaches
Bob Herold is in his tenth season as the UNO head coach. The 1972 graduate of UNO was a 1971 NAIA All-American for the Mavericks. He is 315-192-2 all-time as a college head coach. Herold is assisted by Chris Gadsden (10th Season) and Dan McGinn (9th Season). Pittsburg State is coached by Steve Bever who is in his 19th season as the Gorillas head coach. He has a career record of 495-404. Bever is assisted by Beau Schultz (2nd Season), Dr. Gary Grimaldi (11th Season), Jason Miori (1st Season).
The Series
UNO holds the advantage over Pittsburg State by just four games. The series record currently sits at 10-6.
Team Leaders
Evan Porter set the school record for career hits this past weekend. Porter entered the week needing just six hits to surpass Bryan Frew. He finished with a total of nine hits, bringing him to 271 for his career. Porter leads the team in hits (45), and total bases (68). Brett Koehn is the team leader in batting average at .426. Andrew Hansen leads the team with 13 doubles, runs (35) and RBIs (27). Drew Schwab leads the team in home-runs with six. Ben Percival leads the team in wins with a record of 6-0 while Joe Holtmeyer is the team leader in era at 1.26 and strike-outs with 49.
