Mavericks Go for Nine in a Row

Weekly Release
The University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team will attempt to extend its winning streak to nine games on Wednesday when it plays host to visiting Missouri Western in a doubleheader. The game is scheduled to take place at the Ballpark at Boys Town and will begin at 1 p.m. The Mavericks will travel to Kirksville, Mo., for a four game weekend series with Truman State. The series will consist of a pair of doubleheaders on Friday, April 3 at 1 p.m. and Saturday, April 4 at 12 p.m.
The Records
Last week, the Mavericks improved their record to 24-9 overall and 14-4 in the MIAA to stay in second place behind Emporia State and are now ranked 19th Nationally. UNO swept a four-game series over the weekend against Pittsburg State. The Mavs won on Saturday 3-2, 4-1 and triumphed on Sunday 8-0 and 8-2 getting complete games from every starting pitcher. Missouri Western is 17-13 on the season and is 7th in the MIAA with a record of 6-8. They are 1-1 against the Mavs after a doubleheader split in St. Joseph on March 18. Truman State is currently in last place in the MIAA at 4-12 and 6-23 overall.
The Coaches
#Bob Herold# is in his tenth season as the UNO head coach. The 1972 graduate of UNO was a 1971 NAIA All-American for the Mavericks. He is 319-192-2 all-time as a college head coach. Herold is assisted by #Chris Gadsden# (10th Season) and Dan McGinn (9th Season). Missouri Western is coached by Buzz Verduzco who is in his 10th season as the Griffons head coach. He has a career record of 263-213. Verduzco is assisted by Brandon Freeborn (4th Season). The Bulldogs are coached by 3rd year man Dan Davis. In his three seasons as Truman State's head coach, he has a record of 23-103. He is assisted by Mike O'Haver (1st season), Patrick Delaney, and Sean Zaborowski.
The Series
UNO holds the advantage over Missouri Western by 11 games. The series record currently sits at 22-11. The Mavs trail in the all-time series to Truman State by just one game. Currently, UNOs record against the Bulldogs is 1-2.
Team Leaders
#Andrew Hansen# leads the team in batting average at .408, doubles (19), runs (37) and RBIs (28). Hansen is tied with #Evan Porter# for the team lead in hits at 49. #Drew Schwab# leads the team in home-runs with six. #Ben Percival leads the team in wins with a record of 7-0 while Joe Holtmeyer# is the team leader in era at 1.01 and strike-outs with 55.
