UNO Baseball Team Starts Conference Play Friday

The University of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team begins conference play this weekend at Emporia State. The Mavericks will travel to Emporia, Kan., for a four game weekend series. The first game is on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Saturday the teams will play a double-header starting at 1:00 p.m. and will finish the series on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
The Records
The Mavericks return home with a record of 10-5 after completing an eight game trip to Florida where they went 4-4. Next up UNO heads to Emporia, Kan. to face Emporia State in the opening game of it's MIAA schedule. Emporia is 10-3 on the season including 2-0 in the MIAA and are 3-0 at home.
The Coaches
#Bob Herold# is in his tenth season as the UNO head coach. The 1972 graduate of UNO was a 1971 NAIA All-American for the Mavericks. He is 310-189-2 all-time as a college head coach. Herold is assisted by Chris Gadsen (11th Season) and Dan McGinn (10th Season). Emporia State is coached by Bob Fornelli who is entering his sixth season as the head coach at Emporia and 13th season overall. He has a record of 216-89 at Emporia and 522-202 for his career. Fornelli is assisted by Jason Santangelo ( second season) and John Martin (first season).
The Series
UNO holds a seven game advantage over the Hornets heading into this weekends matchup. The series record currently sits at 24 wins for the Mavs, and 17 wins for Emporia.
Team Leaders
#Evan Porter# leads the team in batting average on the year with a .482 average. He also leads the team in hits (27), doubles (11), runs (18), total bases (44), and RBIs with 16. #Travis Jacobi# is tied with Porter for the team lead in home-runs with two each. #Ben Percival leads the team in wins with a record of 3-0 while Joe Holtmeyer# is the team leader in era at 0.82 and strike-outs with 20.
