Pair of Walk-off At-bats Leads Mavericks to Sweep

OMAHA, Neb. - A suicide squeeze in the first game and then a double in the ninth inning of the second game led the Mavericks to a pair of walk-off wins Saturday in a doubleheader sweep over Fort Hays State at Claussen-Westgate Field. No. 22 Nebraska-Omaha beat the Tigers, 3-2 in the first game and 5-4 in the second game. Treightin Yates scored the winning runs in both games.
The Mavericks (32-7, 5-2 MIAA) will continue action with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Wayne State Tuesday.
Molly Feichtinger doubled in two runs in the bottom of the seventh of game one to tie the score and 2-2 and then Jenna Dell's suicide squeeze bunt scored Yates to complete the comeback.
Kristi Meneely pinch hit and led off the seventh by getting hit by a pitch. Ashley Lynch then pinch ran for her. Katelyn Hinton then walked and she and Lynch advanced a base on Yate's sacrifice bunt. FHSU's throw on the play went to third and was late and wild. Feichtinger followed that with her two-run double to right field and Yates held at third. Dell then put down a bunt and the throw came into home but Yates slid in safely for the win.
In the second game Yates hit a one-out double in the bottom of the ninth and then Feichtinger followed with a walk-off shot to the centerfield wall.
UNO was down or tied with FHSU late in both games. In the opener the Tigers scored one in the third off three hits and they scored one in the fifth off a pair of hits to give them a 2-0 lead that lasted until the seventh-inning heroics.
In game two the teams were tied, 1-1 after five innings until the Mavs scored three runs in the sixth off an RBI double from Julia Krejci and a two-run home run from Meneely. The Tigers answered with three runs of their own in the top of the seventh off a pair of doubles to tie the score again.
Feichtinger had four hits and three RBI in the doubleheader and Amanda Bader had four hits and scored twice.
Melissa Negrete struck out seven and got the win in game one and Lindsey Slocum had 10 strikeouts to improve to 10-0 with the decision in the second game.
