Apr 14, 2009 | General, Softball
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Junior infielder Treightin Yates batted .562 (9-of-16) in the lead-off spot for the No. 22 Mavericks during a 6-0 week of action to lead her to MIAA hitter of the week honors, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Yates had four extra-base hits, five runs batted in and seven runs scored.
She scored both walk-off, game-winning runs in a pair of wins against Fort Hays State Saturday and against Upper Iowa she was 5 for 6 from the plate with lead-off triples in both games that led to early UNO leads. During the week she had a 1.063 slugging percentage with a double, two triples and a home run.
In the first game against FHSU she scored from third on a suicide squeeze to give UNO the win and in the second game she doubled in the bottom of the ninth and then scored the winning run on a double by Molly Feichtinger.
Yates is the first UNO hitter to earn the honor and the award is UNO's fourth of the year in softball as two pitchers have earned pitcher of the week honors three times.
